With Mother's Day rapidly approaching, we are reminded of how frequently we rely on our mothers’ advice.

A Lifetime of Dividends

What is it like to grow up with someone always in our corner, supplying us with unconditional love and support?

And what if that someone is the one who taught us to brush our teeth and tie our shoes?

How about preparing the food that ensured we had something to eat when hungry?

That someone represented goodness in our eyes.

How did it make us feel when that someone repeatedly expressed how wonderful we are?

We cannot quantify the enormity of consistent affirmation's impact on our confidence.

My mother’s daily investments in my well-being delivered dividends for a lifetime.

In honor of Mother's Day, I dust off my annual tribute to the person who had the single biggest influence in my life: my mother.

Mom-isms

Even though she said them decades ago, I can still hear her say:

"That little voice in your head is your conscience. Listen to it."

"Treat others how you'd like to be treated."

"If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all."

"Make your bed."

"Brush your teeth every night before bed."

"Look both ways before crossing the street."

"No balls in the house."

"Mind your teachers."

"Hold the door for others."

"Always be kind."

"Follow your dreams."

"Always do your best."

"The harder you work, the luckier you get."

"The sun will come up tomorrow."

"Take good care of your toys, and they'll last a long time." (My 2008 M5 is in mint condition.)

"Honesty is the best policy."

"You can't judge a book by its cover."

"Things always work out for the best."

"You can do whatever you put your mind to Jeff."

Love you, Mom.

Happy Mother's Day!
